With the past two Galaxy S generations, Samsung has offered to versions of its flagship Android phone: one with a flat display and one with a curved edge screen. That might change next year, though.
A new report claims that Samsung is thinking about making both its Galaxy S8 phones with curved edge screens. That’s according to The Korea Herald, whose sources say that Samsung is already working on getting curved display panels in 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch sizes, which are the same sizes as the screens on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, respectively.
Nothing is official until Samsung says that it is, but the company appears to like the dual curved edge display, having added the feature to its new Galaxy Note 7 after years of flat-screened Galaxy Note flagships. It’s also said that the Galaxy S7 edge is outselling its flat-screened Galaxy S7 sibling, which could be another reason as to why Samsung is thinking about giving both Galaxy S8 models curved displays.
One other thing to consider is that if Samsung does opt to include dual curved edge screens on both Galaxy S8 models is what they’ll call the larger version. With the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7, the bigger phone was called the S6 edge and S7 edge, and while that worked when one phone had a flat screen and the other had a curved edge display, it’d be kind of strange to see the name “Galaxy S8 edge” if the non-edge Galaxy S8 had a curved edge display, too.
What do you think of this rumor? Would you like a Galaxy S8 with a 5.1-inch dual curved edge screen or do you think Samsung should continue to offer a flat-screen model?
