The Apple HomePod is one of the pricier smart speakers on the market, but today it's getting a price cut.
Apple has reduced the price of the HomePod in several parts of the globe. For example, in the U.S. it's been dropped to $299, down from its original price of $349. Consumers in the U.K. will find that the HomePod is now £279, down from £319, while Canadian shoppers can now get the HomePod for $399 rather than $449. In Australia, the HomePod has had its price reduced to A$469, down from A$499.
Apple hasn't made any official announcements about the price cut or given an explanation as to why its HomePod is now cheaper.
HomePod is a good-looking speaker that places a focus on audio performance, boasting seven beamforming tweeters, a woofer, and other Apple-engineered audio tech. Its original pricing was a bit high, though, especially as consumers shopping for a smart speaker see cheaper devices like the $150 Amazon Echo Plus. The skill sets of the HomePod and Siri are also a bit more limited than competing speakers and assistants, which didn't help Apple's device. The HomePod's new price does make it a bit more intriguing for consumers in the market for a smart speaker, though it's still not exactly a cheap device.
