A new Tributes section is being added to memorialized Facebook profiles that'll add a separate tab on the profile where friends and family can share posts, leaving the original timeline preserved.
Facebook is also adding more controls for legacy contacts, which are family members or friends who care for a Facebook account after a person passes away. These legacy contacts can now moderate posts made in the new Tributes section, including changing tagging settings, removing tags, and editing who can post and who can see posts. Facebook also recently began allowing parents who have lost children under 18 to request to become the legacy contact.
Finally, Facebook is now using AI to help keep memorialized profiles from appearing in places that might cause distress. This includes recommending that that person be invited to events or sending a birthday reminder to their friends.
