Amazon today introduced an updated Fire 7 tablet with a couple of major improvements. First up, it's got double the built-in storage of the previous model, with 16GB and 32GB options available. Both models include a microSD slot, too, letting you add up to 512GB of additional storage.
The updated Fire 7 is also faster than its predecessor. Amazon touts that it's got a faster 1.3GHz quad-core processor.
Rounding out the new Amazon Fire 7 features are an upgraded front camera and some new color options. The new Fire 7 has a 2MP front camera with 720p video recording, up from the previous model's VGA front cam, as well as a 2MP rear-facing camera. Amazon has also painted the new Fire 7 with Sage, Plum, and Twilight Blue hues, and Black is also available as a color option.
Other features of the new Amazon Fire 7 include a 7-inch 1024x600 display, up to 7 hours of battery life on a single charge, and microUSB and 3.5mm ports.
The new Amazon Fire 7 is priced at $49.99 and is now available for pre-order ahead of its June 6th launch.
Also introduced today is a new Amazon Fire 7 Kids Edition tablet. It's got the same upgrades as the regular Fire 7 — more storage, faster processor, better front camera — and it's also got an improved case that includes a stand. It's available for pre-order for $99.99 and will also launch on June 6th.
Amazon's Fire 7 isn't the most high-end tablet around, but it is a low-cost device that'll let you watch videos, read Kindle books, and browse the web on the go, all without spending much on the tablet. The improvements made to the new model are all welcome, especially since Amazon has kept the price the same.
