After confirming its Android 10 update plans back in late August, HMD Global has now starting the process of updating its Nokia phones to the new OS.
The Nokia 8.1 is the first phone from HMD to be updated to Android 10. The update is now rolling out now with improvements like Smart Reply, which will give you recommended actions for incoming messages; Google's gesture navigation; Dark Theme; Focus Mode for blocking out distracting apps when you need to focus; and Family Link, which will let you manage your kids usage like setting screen time limits and viewing app usage.
While the Nokia 8.1 may be the first HMD phone to get Android 10, it won't be the only model. HMD says that it plans to update its entire portfolio to Android 10, and devices like the Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1 are slated to get the update by the end of 2019. Several other Nokia models are expected to get Android 10 in early 2020.
HMD Global is known to be one of the best Android OEMs around when it comes to software updates, and it looks like the company wants to keep that going with Android 10. The Nokia 8.1 is part of the first group of devices to be updated to Android 10, joining the likes of the OnePlus 7 Pro, Essential Phone, and Google Pixel phones, and hopefully the company will meet its timeline goal and get its other devices updated in a timely manner.
