ALLTEL Wireless Reviews See All ALLTEL Wireless News

Purchased by Verizon Wireless on January 9, 2009, Alltel Wireless is still operating on its own in certain markets per the agreement. Package plans combine Alltel wireless, home telephone, and Internet services; regional and national plans are also available, with free nationwide long distance. Most of their plans have unlimited nights/weekends, too. Their "My Circle" feature provides free calling to select numbers on any carrier's network. Check out Alltel Wireless reviews.

Long Time Alltel Customer...finally leaving and trying someone new....

Posted on: September 2nd, 2007 by Carla R

The good: The old, grandfathered "Unlimited Plan" for $59.95 per month. Call as much as you want in your "local calling area". Unlimited Axcess Package - send/receive as many text, picture and video messages as your heart desires - along with mobile web - all for $19.99 per month. The bad: Quite frankly, the customer service sucks. It's like pulling teeth to get a "warm, live body" on the phone - automation HELL. Exuberant roaming charges if you're not on a National Freedom Plan. Roaming and airtime charges for accessing the mobile web when not in your local calling area. Limited number/styles of phones available. Not keeping up with current trends and promotions of other carriers.Summary: I have been an Alltel customer since June of 1993...yep, started out with that big, bulky BAG phone - LOL! Alltel service is okay for the most part, but can truly stand some improvements and more cell towers. I work for AT&T and have been in the telecom industry for 16 years, so I'm somewhat of an 'insider'. I have a company phone, which of course, is AT&T and let me tell you - there is NO comparison to the network coverage, dropped calls (lack thereof), promotions, phone/PDA offerings, etc. The straw that broke the camel's back with me is that I recently traveled to Houston for a week. I called and paid $10 for the 'Free To Roam' package of 100 roaming/LD minutes. Well, I get my bill and I have $293 worth of roaming charges - WHOA! They were all mostly for internet usage. I don't know if a switch got hung up somewhere or what, but the charges aren't valid. I was out enjoying my vacation and NOT on the internet from my phone. Alltel basically refused to research the issue or issue any goodwill credits (remember, I'm a 14 year customer!). Mind you, this is by far the first 'roaming' issue I've had with Alltel. Another thorn in my side is that they are trying to 'strong arm' the customers still on the old, grandfathered "Unlimited" plan to switch over to a new National Freedom Plan. If you're on the old plan, they tell you that you're on another network technology and you can't upgrade to certain phones, but can only use the old, cheap, below standards unless you switch over to a new, more expensive plan. Additionally, when My Circle of friends came out, I tried to enroll and they told me you had to be on a plan that was at least $59.99 or more per month. Well guess what? My plan is $59.95 per month and I couldn't use My Circle - this is all a marketing strategy to FORCE people off of that plan where they're making no money. Those are my gripes! But overall, through the years, service has been good - room for improvement though.

The good: I can reach everywhere!!The bad: Occasional dropped call.Summary: I can reach out in the middle of no where on a Louisiana back road and talk to my sister-in-law who has another cellular service (her cellular service doesn't work in the area she lives)Also, I went with them because my mom, lives across the state line into Arkansas, and she gets wonderful reception, so we joined. I get reception just about everywhere. I love Alltel!

RUN THE OTHER WAY!!

Posted on: August 27th, 2007 by Karen Evans

The good: It works on occasion. The bad: Drops calls all the time, not necessarilly in the same location. Horrible all the way around.Summary: I'm trying to call them on land line right now to cancell. (Their phones aren't working.) Has to be done today or I have to pay another month. As soon as I get them to cancel I'm calling AT&T to set up my new phone with them! I didn't have near the problems with AT&T. They told me they were putting up new towers,so the reception would be getting better. That was 2 years ago!

People Need to think before writing reviews

Posted on: August 17th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: Very decent Coverage Area, MyCircle, 1Year or 2Year contract options, very few actual roaming areas you will be charged in.The bad: Long wait at some stores, long holds on customer service, My Account on Alltel.com sometimes isn't working.Summary: I have been using Alltel Since 05/04/2006. I have never had a roaming charge on my bill. I travel from South Dakota clear down into Texas and never been charged for roaming. When I leave my home state of Nebraska my roaming indicator comes on and starts flashing. The Alltel people told me as long as it is flashing I will not roam. Guess what, they were right! Alltel is very fair with its' plans and phone prices. A lot of the bigger companies, Verizon, Cingular, Sprint do not offer 1 year contracts. Alltel does. This meens I can get a new phone every 9 months so I am never in an outdated phone. Alltel's mycircle lets me talk to my family members who have Verizon for free! With Mycircle I can talk to any land line number I choose for free also! I have a 900 day time minute plan but with mycircle, and mobile to mobile, I only use about 300. Alltel also has an unlimited text plan for $19.99. The bigger cell companies unlimited text is like $6.00 a month but they will charge you a ton if you send pics or videos. With alltel Pictures, videos, instant messaging, and audio sound messinging "like ring tones" are counted as text messages. With my unlimited text packet I also get mobile web! I can see weather radar, maps, directories, I can do my yahoo email and face book all from my razor. For everyone that thinks they are roaming check your indicator, if it is flashing or blinking you are okay. I would recomend alltel to anyone.

To many dropped calls

Posted on: July 27th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: I have had other cell companies and for me I cant name a pro here. The bad: I don't live in a mountainous area or to many obstuctions its that they are such a small company and don't have enough cell towers to transmit calls over so the distance is greater for the signal to travel and thats why they have so many dropped calls.Summary: Sometimes its better to pay $10-$20 more a month a not deal with so many dropped calls because it becomes such a hassle to make calls no wonder I have so many minutes left over because it is to much of a pain to use the cell and even for the person at the other end of the call, to have to call back so many times and still have them dropped.

Buyer beware!

Posted on: July 18th, 2007 by Chris Lumsargis

The good: Good plans for familiesPrices on plans are competitiveLarge service areaThe bad: Does not honor their end of contract.Service area does not mean that they provide service in that area.Company lacks flexibility in meeting consumer needs.Summary: Eleven months ago we signed a two year contract with Alltel. Their website and local office stated there was service in our area. A month later service began to degrade. After multiple calls, emails and trips to the local Alltel store, Alltel admitted that service in our area is poor and there was nothing they could do. The technician stated that Alltel would likely release us from the contract. The person from the "Retention Department" stated that it was against Alltel's policy to do such things. She stated that they are not responsible for their service and, after the first fifteen days of service, any service issues are the customer's problem.

great service

The good: great reception, my circle, no contract extensions, ok costumer service, great pricesThe bad: website keeps having problems, text bundles is one of the highestSummary: i come from being with tmobile for many years, after lots of dropped calls, not so good reception and alot of months of research and debating i finally switched to alltel.that was a great decision!!!! alltel so far has been great. all the places where i didnt get service or just one bar with tmobile i get great service and many more bars!!!!! im not jelous of all my verizon friends anymore!!!i have to say that the my cirlce is great!! im on the 900 min, free nights, weekends and mobile to mobile for 60 bucks plus my circle and i hardly touch my airtime minutes!!!! i have used close to 2,500 hundred m2m and my cirlcle!! unbelievale, with noo rush to get off the phone because my minutes are running. alltel is great!!i will like to say that you should research your area with people around with diffrent carriers, ask questions, google it, make sure you go to all the places you commonly travel too--then if alltel is one of your options take it!!! it took me six months of research to decide. remember is a contract with a 200 dollars cancelation fee!! it will give you less reason to complain

ALLTEL

Posted on: June 27th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: My circle, dont drop your mobile to mobile, great reception, get through were other carriers dont, no roaming charges on verizon (big plus), and sprint, no longer contracts when changing plans, my lg ax8600 very reliable, very affordableThe bad: website problems and when that happenes i cant cant change my my cirlce contacts, costumer service needs just a little work, sometimes people say they call and they get the answer machine--dont here the call waiting beep.Summary: I have had suncom, tmobile and now alltel. never went to sprint because i heard horrible stories, verizon is to expensive, tmobile has wonderful costumer service but my reception was way less than expected. suncom, well i just cant remember that far back.My cirlce is the greates thing invented in the cell world for now!!!! my recent bill said that between the mobile to mobil and the my circle i have used 2300 minutes!!! and i still have a week to go. i have hardly used my airtime minutes.i can remember that with tmobile my fave it just wasnt enough--one of them i had to put my husband down because tmobile dropped the mobile to mobile once you got a my fave so that only left me four!! so i was always telling people "call me after nine, running up my minutes, sorry bye"now i feel so free!!!! Being in the army-- my family is so spread around this earth and with so many diffrent providers-this works fine, i can keep in touch as much as i want and with any of my fams provider!!! Friends included.i feel more conected and like i said the reception is great.i highly recoment alltel-but first please research your area--where your travel, ask around and if alltel is one of the options do take it before the other ones.my decision was made in the course of 6 months carefully watching other alltel users--and others. you do not want to be tied to something you cant afford or thats not usable to you.

Constant Dropped Calls

Posted on: June 16th, 2007 by Harvey C

The good: Is there someone Better? The bad: If this is as good as it gets, it is badSummary: I travel daily form Albuquerque to Belen, NM. In 40 miles I typically lose coverage 3 to 4 times. Oh Yeah they give me credit for a dropped call, but so what, I want a carrier that will give me coverage on I-25 all the way.
