Research These Theives First

Posted on: June 12th, 2007 by Martin Rowland

The good: No contractThe bad: NO customer service, deceptive trade practices, confusing website, hard to get minutes ordered on-line onto phone - did I mention WORST customer service everSummary: I only wish I'd done a quick Google of "tracfone customer reviews" or "tracphone class action suit" before allowing these thives access to my bank account. While I can't complain about the actual phone service it's self (it worked for the 50 minutes I used it), everything else about this company is awful. Customer service reps that can barely speak or understand english, horrific time getting minutes to show up on the phone (although they have NO problem sucking the $$ from your bank account), inexplicable roaming charges (again, Google "tracfone class action suit" or "tracfone KY class action"). I give this company the lowest possible rating - have been trying for two weeks now to get refund for minutes not used. Canceled my minutes w/ them after less than a week due to problems getting minutes on phone & customer service that couldn't/wouldn't help. Awful company - believe ALL the horror stories you'll find by Googling "tracfone customer review" - I only wish there were some way to rate them lower than "poor" on this site.

The people in Argentina don't know what there doing

Posted on: June 8th, 2007 by Linda Isaacs

The good: don't have bill to worry aboutThe bad: trying to get through to the people in argentina to get a local numberSummary: I have spent the last week calling and being sent new sim cards. i have replaced the sim card 5 times in the last week and every time i call them to get a local number i am issued a long distance number. they don't understand that i want it to be local from my home phone. they keep telling me that no number is long distance for a tracfone. they do not understand me and when we're done with the call i'm being sent another sim card. i'll keep the long distance number just so long as i don't have to deal with them people anymore. but i will not purchase another tracfone!

Customer Service was like MadTV!

Posted on: June 4th, 2007 by Renae Johnson

The good: Phone was cheap! The bad: It stopped working and would not clear error "Invalid SIM". Summary: Called support at three separate times, received a new SIM card that produced the same error. It appeared that I got the same woman each time who told me over and over to do the same thing. Take the battery out, pull the SIM card, replace them both, turn phone on and I have to talk to my supervioser. I was so irritated that I hung up the phone. It was a complete irritation! This is for my friend in the hospital and I dont' have all day to keep pulling the battery out.

TracFone Update

Posted on: May 27th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: I actually now have a cell phone that does what I want it to-give me cheap limited service for infrequent use.The bad: It took from Feb 9 to March 16 to get a working phone and a letter to TracFone CEO plus about another month and a half to get the refund they owed me.Summary: This is an update to my previous post. It took hours and hours of my time on landline phone to their customer service reps to get a phone that would work in my area. But they finally came thru with one that still "roams" in my house and in my town and practically everywhere I go, but they gave me a model that doesn't charge double for the roaming. To be fair to them--they delivered what I wanted and they refunded the extra charges caused by their mistakes and they were unfailingly polite throughout the process. So if I overlook the frustration and the slowness of their actions (a cultural thing probably influenced by the fact they are a South American-based company), then I have to upgrade their rating from my previous disappointment with them.

Won't be buying another Tracfone...

Posted on: March 17th, 2007 by Joe Harker

The good: Cheap if you don't use a cell phone much. 400 minutes lasts me almost 6 months. The bad: HORRIBLE customer service. Can't get airtime refills to work EVER. Always end up calling customer support to get the airtime added. Tracfone's online help is worse than useless, because they give you hope by having you type in a bunch of codes and answering questions, and then they finally tell you that your phone is working fine, Also, Tracphone is an expensive option if you use your phone more than an hour or so per month.Summary: So far, I haven't been able to get a single airtime refill to work like it should. I enter in the code, I get a message on my phone saying that the airtime has been added, I cycle the phone off and on again like it says to, and...nothing. The airtime never shows up on the display. It's like it's just gone at that point.I've tried to re-enter a number, but it always says the code has already been used. This always gets resolved when I call tech support and spend about 30 mins talking to their robot drones who BARELY speak english. They can never figure out the problem, so they have to get a manager's help every time, and the resolution is to give me a code to type in which just gives me my minutes directly to the phone.Terrible experiences with Tracphone. I won't be buying another airtime refill, that's for sure. Either gonna upgrade to a better phone/plan, or just do without a cell phone.

Good deal for the money

Posted on: March 16th, 2007 by Jesse Garza

The good: no monthly service fees, deals for subscribersThe bad: potentially expensive if you need a "regular use" phoneSummary: I had tracfone for around a year and never had any problems with the service. It worked flawlessly and I always got emailed "coupons" for service discounts. I'd recommend the service to anyone who wants a cell phone but doesn't want to deal with monthly bills.

TracFone Escalates Blood Pressure

Posted on: March 9th, 2007 by Boris Zharkov

The good: The tech support people are very polite but their English is difficult to understand at times. The bad: Incompetence, incompetence and incompetence. Can I give them zero stars on this rating site?Summary: Bought phone on 2/9/07 online-3 day free delivery promised. A week later, no phone. Phoned sales dept to check on order. Sales rep could find no record of order, so we re-ordered. Second order arrived in 3 days, original order arrived one day later(11 days total). Had to argue with customer service rep to get a prepaid mailing label to return extra phone. Activating the phone resulted in it sticking on "roaming", thus costing double for each call. This resulted in about 15 land line calls to tech support over next two weeks. They had me plug in about 35 different sets of codes but nothing would get the phone to stop roaming. They would try something, make me wait 24 or 48 hours and then they would try something else. Nothing stopped the roaming. They then said the model was defective and they sent a different model. Same result--roaming all the time. So I suggested (politely, but strongly) they send me a "single rate" model which charges the same whether it's in a roaming area or not. They agreed a week ago and I am still waiting for the phone to arrive. A call to them 10 minutes ago yielded polite double talk with no promise of when I would get my THIRD phone. "You should get it in 3 to 5 days, sir". It's been a month, they have $86 of my money ($20 phone, $20 accessory kit plus tax, doubled because of the "lost" then "found" order) and I am sitting here with nothing because I returned the "defective" phones to them in order to supposedly receive the third phone. My argument with them is that they shouldn't claim they can provide service to my zip code if they really can't provide service to it. Or they should indicate up front that a "single rate" phone is required for my area. I've spent 4 weeks, about 9 hours and $86 to find out they can't provide me with service. I only wanted it for emergency calls and to contact my wife when she works late and her switchboard is turned off so she can't receive calls at her desk. I don't need a $50/month Verizon plan. I know I'll eventually get the $86 back--you can count on that! But those hours spent on the phone with tech support are gone, gone, gone. I don't know whether to say I have used this product/service for 30 days or 0 days since I still don't have a phone that works.

Poor Customer Service...

Posted on: March 8th, 2007 by Teresa Williams

The good: Phone itself works fine most of the time and is reasonable priced. The bad: Customer service is awful.Summary: Got my TracFone for occasional use-emergencies while on the road, etc, and it has worked just fine for that. It's easy to add minutes when you need them, and minutes are affordably priced. As long as you have no need to call customer service, you're fine. However, if a problem arises and you do have to call for help, take my advice and have some extra-strength Tylenol handy-you're probably going to need them before your problem is finally resolved. My kids recently gave me a new Motorola TracFone for my birthday to replace the old Nokia I had. Tried to activate but sim card wouldn't work. Took awhile but Tracfone sent another phone which did work. I then called to transfer my minutes (about 300 on the old phone) to my new phone. Didn't happen-minutes disappeared while CSR was doing whatever it is they do to transfer minutes and none of the (many) CSR's I spoke with knew how to retrieve them(?)...hmmm...

The good: New 90 day airtime cards, promotional offers, ease of use.The bad: Air time cards should come with more Units for the price of the cards.Summary: Over all for me I have never had a bad experience with tracfone.Tracfone always has good promotions. I bought a new phone and transfered my units with the help of the customer service and I had no issues with the service. I plan on staying with tracfone for a long time..

The Worst

Posted on: February 16th, 2007 by Kyle Witeck

The good: -cheap-no plansThe bad: -Terrible phones-Restrictions on phones ability-TERRIBLE service-Voicemail inbox will sometimes disapearSummary: Overall I would have to say that Tracfone is probably the worst carriers out on the market. Though it is cheap, you get what you paid for. A very limited selection of phones which are usually close to being obsolete along with the restrictions on the features of the phones. However, the worst area of Tracfone is their service, every time we have called in, we have ended up spending not minutes but hours on the phone due to inexperienced personal.Overall- Tracfone is a disgrace
