Xperia Z, Xperia ZL
After ending 2012 with one Xperia image leak, it's time to kick 2013 off with another. A shot of a device referred to as the Sony Xperia ZL (above right) has been discovered on Sony's official site, and as one might've guessed from their names, the Xperia ZL appears to be a slightly reworked version of the Xperia Z (above left). The Xperia ZL appears to be a bit shorter than the Xperia Z, and the ZL also looks to have both a notification light and a camera at the bottom of its face.
Sony followed this "Xperia _" and "Xperia _L" strategy earlier this year with the Xperia T and Xperia TL, with the former appearing in international markets and the latter hitting AT&T shelves here in the U.S. It's entirely possible that we'll see something similar happen with the Xperia Z landing in some markets while the Xperia ZL goes to others, but so far it's not yet known exactly what Sony plans to do.
The Xperia Z has previously been known by its codename "Yuga" and its rumored to feature a 5-inch 1080p display and quad-core processor. The Xperia ZL, meanwhile, has gone by the codename "Odin" in the past and could end up sharing specs similar to those found on the Xperia Z. If those specs hold true, these new Xperias will be some pretty high-end handsets, and it'll be interesting to see how they stack up to other 5-inch 1080p phones like the HTC DROID DNA. Sony is expected to introduce its new Xperia models at CES, which kicks off next week. We'll be there live, so don't touch that trackpad/mouse!
