There have been rumors of a Vibrant 4G for T-Mobile arriving as soon as the end of February, and this morning CEO Philipp Humm confirmed that device as well as another, even more surprising one. At a press event this morning, T-Mobile USA's Humm confirmed that a 4G-capable Galaxy S will be coming some time in the first half of 2011, and that it'll be bringing a 4G Sidekick along with it. This new Sidekick will be powered by an unknown version of Android and will also be launching in the first half of this year.
Rumors have been floating around lately that a new version of the Sidekick would be arriving, but I'm still pretty surprised, in a good way, by the news that it's actually happening. The Sidekick devices were hugely popular with texting and social networking fanatics, and with the inclusion of both HSPA+ and Android, I've got a feeling that this new Sidekick could be just as popular as its predecessors. It's kind of a bummer that we don't have a more concrete Sidekick launch date to look forward to, but if previous Android phones have proven anything, it's that unreleased phones are almost guaranteed to leak ahead of their release dates. Here's to hoping that this new Sidekick continues the trend.
UPDATE: If the T-Mobile CEO's word isn't quite official enough for you, Samsung just sent out a press release announcing the "Samsung Galaxy S 4G." Details about the handset are scant, but we do know that the device will come with Android 2.2, a Super AMOLED display, and the ability to access speeds of up to 21Mbps. More information is expected "in the coming weeks," so stay tuned.
